Last August, we updated our website to tell you that HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) announced it is proposing to build the StoneSpring Medical Center (SMC) on their Route 50 property!  See this article.

In September, the Virginia State Health Commissioner approved HCA's application to move its Certificate of Public Need (COPN) from its original location in Broadlands (BRMC) to their Route 50 property.  Subsequent to this announcement Inova withdrew it's COPN application for a hospital on Route 50.  See this article and Press Release.

The SMC Special Exception Application (SPEX-2007-0021) is now being reviewed by the Loudoun County Planning Commission.  There are two important SMC dates coming up:

April 14, 2010        Planning Commission Worksession    (listening opportunity)
April 28, 2010        Planning Commission Public Hearing
(speaking and writing opportunity)

If everything proceeds according to schedule, SMC will go to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors (BOS) in May.  We will let you know the date of the BOS Public Hearing.

We've updated this website to reflect our thoughts on why SMC should be supported (see Issues Page).  In addition, the Background Page has been updated with the most recent newspaper articles, links to the SMC fact sheet and updated site plan, and instructions on how to access additional SMC information on the county website, including the Loudoun County Staff Report, which is supportive of the application.

We are reaching out to Loudoun residents who both opposed and supported the Broadlands location (BRMC) in an effort to have a massive show of support for the Route 50 location (SMC).

Please review the information accessible from our website, then Take Action to show your support for StoneSpring Medical Center.

Please tell your Loudoun friends, family, and neighbors about this website.  Thank you for your support!

New update:  HCA is asking to move their COPN to their Route 50 property! (see this article
and additional articles on the Background Page).  In addition, see HCA's website for more information about the proposed Stonespring Medical Center.

We will follow along to see if HCA gets to move their COPN from Broadlands to Rt. 50 or if Inova gets their COPN approved.  We are more hopeful than ever that Dulles South will be the location of the next Loudoun hospital!

July 9, 2009

Hi!  It's been awhile since we sent out our Feb 4th email blast thanking you for all your support in opposing the Broadlands location for the next Loudoun hospital.  We've just updated the website (see the Background Page) to include a number of news articles to reflect the hospital activities since the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors voted to deny the BRMC application in February (see article).

While we are disappointed that HCA decided not to move their COPN to Route 50 (see this
article) and decided to sue the county again (see this article), we are still hopeful for a future hospital on Route 50, especially with the July 1 announcement by Inova that it has applied for an 80 bed-COPN at it's Route 50 site (see article).

The COPN process takes awhile (6-12 months), so check back to read the latest.  We will continue to watch the HCA lawsuit, the HCA/BRMC COPN (they've received another extention to Sept 19th - see article), and the Inova COPN application.  We will also let you know of any efforts needed by citizens to support a Route 50 hospital.  Please let your Loudoun friends and family know about this website.  Thanks for your support!

February, 2009

Are you interested in getting a full-service, acute-care hospital with inpatient beds on Route 50 to serve the thousands of residents in South Riding, Stone Ridge, and all the other communities around us?  Who wouldn’t be, right?  Well, now is the time to act!

We’re hearing through the grapevine that it’s looking more & more likely that the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will approve the Broadlands Regional Medical Center (BRMC).  This will seriously delay our ability to get a “full-service”, acute-care hospital here on Route 50.  We believe it will take a massive response by citizens to turn this around.

Barbara and I have created this website with our thoughts on the issues surrounding this hospital fight with links to additional reading.  We state the many reasons we oppose the BRMC location and the many reasons we favor placing the next hospital in Loudoun on Route 50.  We believe that if BRMC, which is about 5 miles away from the Loudoun Hospital Center in Lansdowne, is approved, it will further delay for many years our ability to get a “full-service” hospital here in Dulles South.

We know many of you are involved right now with the school site fight and are probably watching national news about our economy and elections with anxiety.  But now that the Board of Supervisors’ vote on BRMC is finally approaching, we are asking you to take a moment to note the healthcare needs of our community.

There are two important BRMC dates coming up.

February 2nd -  LAST CHANCE - BRMC Board of Supervisors public hearing
February 3rd - Board of Supervisors business meeting - BRMC vote

Ideally, we’d have a massive turnout at these meetings.  If you can go, great, but we understand that that may be unrealistic for busy families.  All we are asking is that you review the information on our website (at least the Issues page) and WRITE 1 EMAIL by February 2nd to the Board of Supervisors (copy the Leesburg Today) to help bring healthcare to Dulles South for you and your family.

If you feel this issue is important, please don’t assume that someone else will take care of it!  We think it will require thousands of letters to get their attention!  Please let your Loudoun friends and family know about this website.

Your Dulles South Neighbors,

    Lisa Freeman & Barbara Munsey
